In Honor of Cary Chasky

Cary Chasky was born in 1945 in a post-war America still healing from the aftermath of WWII. Growing up Jewish during these pivotal years, he learned the values of resilience and community. His grandfather, who served in the Army, was honored for his bravery in World War I with the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Meanwhile, his father, having a leg deformity and determined to contribute during World War II, successfully joined the Merchant Marines. These themes would shape Cary’s life when he was drafted into the Army in 1966. Surprisingly, he was inducted into the Marines. He embraced this opportunity, understanding the importance of service during a tumultuous time for the nation.

Cary began his military journey at Parris Island before being transferred to Camp Lejeune for advanced training. His typing skills led to his promotion to Lance Corporal, returning to Parris Island for administrative training and then being reassigned to Camp Lejeune as a company discharge clerk, where he was promoted to Corporal.

It was there that he witnessed the profound effects of war on soldiers returning from the front lines. Though honorably discharged in 1968, he served two years in active reserves and an additional two years in inactive reserves. Transitioning back to civilian life was not easy. After struggling to find his footing in an environment that often neglected returning veterans, he joined his family’s screen-printing business.

In 1971, Cary met his wife Robin, and they were married in 1973. Together, they have built a beautiful life. In 1985, they welcomed their son Leslie, a moment that forever changed their lives and had the pleasure of witnessing their family grow when Leslie married Kristin in 2014. The best was yet to come; in 2022, they all celebrated the arrival of Charlie, the granddaughter who has brought more joy than Cary ever thought possible. Cary is grateful that you are honoring them by supporting Heroes To Heroes Foundation, an organization that means so much to him and his fellow veterans.
